-------------------- 1 -------------------- Date: Sun, 3 May 2009 07:41:48 EDT From: Kattor...@aol.com Subject: AnyLyst crap I'm not too sure you are right in this, Gene, since at least two posters on this chatlist digest have admitted being influenced by the hoax posting. One even said she would like a drink but after reading the bogus post, she realized she didn't want liquor by the drink here. How many others who did not post a response read it and, not understanding it was fiction, were horrified into a casting a "no" vote? Not everyone gets cable, I have never seen the Sopranos. I knew the post was fake but I never heard of Silvio Dante. Don't be too sure this post didn't earn some "no" votes in this election. If you choose to allow anonymous posting, fine. But if that's the case, you should screen the posts so that blatant crap like that doesn't get out there. Failing that, you should print a formal notice that the post was fraudulent. Otherwise, you just may be influencing the election in an extremely unfair and undemocratic way. ---------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 1 May 2009 21:21:51 -0400 From: "Gene" gga...@bellsouth.net Subject: My Take on Using "Real Names" Please don't underestimate the chatlist [and bulletin board] member. Chatlist [and bulletin board] members are intelligent enough to evaluate the source of an anonymous writing. They can see it is anonymous. They can evaluate its anonymity along with its message, as long as they are permitted, as they should be, to read that message. And then, once they have done so, it is for them to decide what is "responsible," what is valuable, and what is truth. -------------------- 2 -------------------- Date: Sun, 3 May 2009 13:11:01 -0400 (GMT-04:00) From: Denise Dunn <ddunn1...@earthlink.net> Subject: A Huge Thanks I want to thank everyone who came out to our SCMA Lawn & Garden Show, from the Town of Siler City who guided and directed me joyfully so I would have all of the right paperwork, Mark McBee for his help with the insurance, the Siler City Farmers Market for coming out with some wonderful vegetables, shrubs, plants, crafts. Our vendors who had wonderful products, the people who came and supported us. It was just great! Everyone there wanted to sign up for a booth next year! I also want to say how impressed I was with the turnout for the W. Chatham Relay for Life! It was overwhelming, so many purple shirt survivors! To the people in charge of the Relay many thanks! Thank goodness. -------------------- 4 -------------------- Date: Sun, 3 May 2009 18:53:09 -0400 From: "John Grimes" <cecilbuddt...@charter.net> Subject: Free Speech Jeffrey, I am dismayed that such a defender of the Liberals right to free speech and criticism would pounce on a satirist's right to post some satire as Anna Lyst did on the Chatlist. The Ghosts of Mark Twain,Edgar Allen Poe,Oscar Wilde, O.Henry and numerous other famous authors surely took note of your hypocrisy. Perhaps satire will disqualify Al Franken to be the next U S Senator from Minnesota. -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Sun, 3 May 2009 16:54:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Debbie <mom2cul...@yahoo.com> Subject: What size truck to pull a horse trailer Can someone tell me what would be the minimum engine, etc. I would need to pull a small 2 horse bumper pull trailer with. I"m looking to sell my car and get a truck, SUV, or whatever I can to pull my trailer. Thanks -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Sun, 3 May 2009 20:40:01 -0400 From: Rita Marley-McKenzie <rita.marley-mcken...@chathamnc.org> Subject: Birthday Party Suggestions Sheila, here are a few b-day party options in both SC & Pittsboro: Pittsboro: S&T's Soda Shoppe-They have a back room & an upstairs perfect for partying. 545-0007 Our Neighborhood School Pizzeria-Three rooms to choose from for the perfect b-day! 545-0900 If you are just looking for a space, what about the Kiwanis Building? 542-3939 Siler City: Mina Bean'a-They have a fabulous party room & also have b-day party packages available. 663-3266 Paint Your Own Pottery at the Raleigh Street Gallery has b-day party activities, too. 663-6278 You can also rent the Siler City Community Center or Paul Braxton Gym through the Parks & Rec. office at the courthouse. 742-2699 If you are looking for a large-scale venue, the Armory 742-2829 and Moose Lodge 742-5124 on Alston Bridge Rd are possibilities. We've either had parties or attended parties/events at most of these locations, and all of the experiences were great. Another non-Chatham-centric location (sorry Gene!) is the Scrap Exchange in Durham. They have a person who leads a themed party, and all the kids make a one-of-a-kind invention to take home. You may also want to look at one of the parks in the area, if an outdoor party is what you are looking for. We've had parties at Boling Park in SC, and I've seen parties at the Town Park in Pittsboro. I'm not sure if you have to reserve a space in Pittsboro. In SC, it's first come, first served, so you have to get there early & stake out your spot. Good luck! Hope this helps. Let's all stop perpetuating false information and getting upset over trivial nonsense. Whether you are for or against an issue, the important thing is to VOTE. It's a wonderful country we live in that we all have a voice in our government through our votes. I'll see you all at the polls on Tuesday, and I'll have a genuine smile for every one of you...no matter which side of the issue you stand on. Neither are school board members David Hamm, Deb McManus or Gerald Totten. I need someone to take in a sweet 16 dress for my daughter. It is somewhat complicated, so I need someone who knows their stuff. The person recommended by the store where we bought the dress?said she couldn't do it. Not that it can't be done, just that she wasn't sure how to do it. Please respond to my email. Thanks so much!
