-------------------- 1 -------------------- Date: Mon, 27 Apr 2009 06:26:59 -0400 (EDT) From: Robin Luker frogofthecr...@embarqmail.com Subject: THANK YOU I would like to send out two BIG THANK YOUS today. First Thank you to Hope Crossing Animal Hospital and the wonderful staff there. The recent rescue that adopted us had several issues that we needed help with and Hope Crossing was there to help. I was able to bring them the puppy and they were able to help me with an ear full of questions about her and a quick look over to make sure she was ok. Thank you all. The second goes to Mike at DogScrub!! Mobile Dog Bathing & Grooming. When I called Mike and told him about the rescue, he didn't hesitate to jump in and help. She needed to have her cute fluffy hair shaved off so a tick search and removal would be easier. Mike spoke to her softly as he shaved her and wasn't phased by the ticks he was finding on her. When he was finished he did more then expected and gave her a bath and spa treatment afterwards. She looked like a different dog when Mike was finished. And a much cooler and happier one. Mike was so gentle with her, that I, along with the puppy had total trust in him. I would so recommend him to anyone who needs a groomer. Thank you Mike for all your help. We still have the rescue as no one has come to claim her yet, but I think thier time is running out because we are falling hopelessly for her. Here is the numbers to contact both places for services in case anyone may need them: Hope Crossing Animal Hospital : 919-542-1975 Mike at DogScrub : 919-542-1540 Check them out, I assure that you won't be disappointed. My husband and I found a very cute very very sweet black lab wandering along 15-501 on Sunday morning. She had an invisible fence collar on, but no ID of any kind. We took her and had her scanned for a chip this morning, no luck!! She is now at the Orange county animal shelter. They are going to call us before they have to put her down. This dog is VERY sweet, if young and slightly ill behaved (but she's smart, we taught her to sit already, very eager to please) someone obviously loved her very much. If you hear of anyone having lost a dog in that area (south of southern village, near the house with the orange door on the right) please tell them to go to the orange county animal shelter!! Short of that, please consider adopting/fostering this incredible dog. She was good with our dogs, good with our cats, and didn't even seem bothered by chickens/guineas!! We would love to keep her ourselves, but we already have a full house. -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Mon, 27 Apr 2009 09:38:16 -0400 From: MarkBeth Morton eb...@msn.com Subject: RE: Dog on 15-501 South Date: Fri, 24 Apr 2009 11:37:04 -0400 (EDT) From: keepsakesframing keepsakesfram...@earthlink.net Subject: Re: Chatham Chatlist #3402 There has been a large blk shepherd/mix on 15-501 for the last week. I have my own stories. I once had 14 cats registered at Hillcreek. I had spent thousands of dollars there. Seemingly, with each month, they became more complicated, more money oriented. I finally just couln't take it any more. It was just too stressful going there. As far as the compassion part from Pittsboro Animal Hospital - I have yet to see it.. My first visit was with an altered male cat with a urinary infection- sometime in Nov.- no questions were asked regarding if he had a rabies shot. Come January, I received a notice from Pittsboro Animal Hospital that the cat was due for a rabies shot in Jan. The next visit was with a sick 10 year old cat. I was not given the idea at the first visit that it was hopeless- I think the vet knew more than she was saying. After all was said and done, the cat died at home, after 3 visits. I now feel that the last two visits were of no value except to the vet. This cost me nearly $400.00- No suggestion that the cat would be better off dead. Last Oct. or Nov. I called to make an appointment for a sick cat- the person answering the phone told me that "we only see patients that have had a rabies shot and that I would need to bring in his papers of proof of rabies shot"- I protested and said that he was listed at another vet in town for the rabies shot- couldn't they call and confirm it.?That seem to confuse the issue and finally I heard someone in the background say "just tell them to bring the cat in" This cat had something wrong that made the Vet suggest it had Feline herpes. I already had heard that this is incurable, but treatable. I paid $27.00 an ointment that did nothing to help- No suggestions for further treatment from the vet- just "I would like to see him again in 2 weeks"- I came home and read up on Feline Herpes on the internet and bought my own treatment from a local drug store- and the cat's condition has improved greatly. I feel that the vet knowingly withheld this simple information, in order to later sell me something much more expensive during additional visits. Now, back to that compassion- Last year I found a box turtle that apparently had just the back tip of his shell and leg run over by a car. He Could not walk. I tried to help him, feed him to the best of my ability, but I knew it was hopless. Finally after two weeks with no success, I called Pittsboro Animal hospital and told them the situation- the end result, they wanted $45.00 to put the turtle to sleep. Nothing more, nothing less. As much as I love cats, I resent having to put up with cat's running around in a vet's waiting room. My cat is there because it is sick- and in a cage. I don't appreciate having the vet's cat approching my cat in that situation. They even let their cats come in the room when one's cat is being examined. And by the way- said Vet's cats are far, far too fat for their own good. Last, I fully believe that most vet visits and treatment are very carefully organized and drawn out to squeeze every penny possible from the visit. ***************************************************************** This ends our discussion about this matter on the chatlist. Why are school board members Kathie Russell and Flint O'Brien publicly endorsing "Liquor by the Drink"? The other BOE members - David Hamm, Deb McManus and Gerald Totten - are NOT publicaly saying you should vote for Liquor by the drink. Why are these two Chatham County school board members, Russell and O'Brien, even involved in this discussion? How does the ability to buy booze by the shot affect our children's education and welfare? Am I missing something here? Is there connection between promoting good schools and promoting good liquor? Will the schools see any increases in funding from the increase in county tax collections? Voting for or against something is every citizen's right. I don't care if Kathie Russell and Flint O'Brien want to vote for LBD but I wonder why they, as school board members, feel the need to make the public endorsement. This doesn't have anything to do with our schools, and I see no reason why school board members should involve themselves in it. Officially endorsing and encouraging people to vote for liquor by the drink just seems a little weird. What next? A new slogan? Will we hear Kathie and Flint loudly proclaim - "BOOZE IT UP!
