I just dealt with a similar situation (daughter's car, front bumper cover) and was very pleased with Dan and Ken at "Auto Fashions & Together Customs," a strangely named but well run operation off Mann's Chapel Road. Website here: _http://www.autofashions.com/_ (http://www.autofashions.com/) I found them honest, fast, courteous, and affordable - not a bad combination of qualities for the auto business! I had them get and paint a new bumper cover, and install it and a headlight I had bought off eBay, and the total charge was about half the estimate of another local Pittsboro body shop. And ,they arranged to pick up and drop off my daughter's car, and worked around her work and school schedule. What more could one ask for? BP

Hi,
You need to click on the link on that page that is for the Chatham County Freecycle Yahoo Group.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chathamcountynorthcarolinafreecycle
This will take you to the Yahoo!Groups page. You will need to have a Yahoo! account if you dont already have one.
Anyway, if you click on that Yahoo! Group link above or on the page you found, you will see, in the upper right hand corner, a button that says Join this Group.
Click on that. From there, you will be taken to the Yahoo Login, so you can log in using your yahoo account information, or if you don't have a yahoo account, you can create one and then you should be able to join the group and start receiving e-mails from the Chatham Freecycle.
If you need any help getting set up, let me know, I'd be more than happy to help. I can even come by your house and set it up for you if necessary.
I am on the Chatham, Orange and Durham freecycle groups and have used them before to get some good stuff for use around the house, and also to get rid of some stuff that I dont need, but could be used by someone else.
Cheers Jeff

The General Meeting of the NHS Arts Education Foundation will be on Monday, February 11 at 7:15 pm in the evening in Leslie Burwell's Art Studio at Northwood.
We'd love to have a big crowd. You are encouraged to bring guests, students, neighbors, friends, Romans, countrymen, etc. Our scholarship goal is to raise at least $5000 this spring to fund a $1000 scholarship in each Arts Ed discipline at NHS—Choral Music, Dance, Drama, Instrumental Music, and Visual Arts. This will take a group effort and we can't wait to get started.
We'll be happy to accept membership dues and/or scholarship donations between 7 and 7:15. We'll also have copies of the Community Audit if you'd like a copy to complete. We can take any copies that have been completed to get to Lori who is going to code the results for analysis. The audit is also available online in the Resource Section of the NHSAEF website. Gene, You're the historian, I'm the writer. I see the essence of the Chatlist this way. This wording may be too formal or lofty for your use, but perhaps you can glean an idea or two that will stimulate your thinking:
The Chatham Chatlist is a neighbor-to-neighbor community forum. In many ways, the Chatlist represents a return to small-town rural America, hearkening to a time when your friends and neighbors were the primary sources of information about who needs help, who does good work, and what local news is worth broadcasting. As was true of word of mouth in those days, the Chatlist is inclusive, and all communications within the bounds of good taste (and occasionally, some that may live perilously close to that border) are used without embellishment. Entries are not edited for the finer points of grammar or syntax, and those very imperfections provide a flavor to the list that enables contributors to feel comfortable expressing themselves without the fear of undue scrutiny or the need to observe editorial protocols.
The venue is popular with readers and contributors across demographic and economic spectrums because it is genuine and devoid of pretense in the most transparent of ways. It is, after all, the figurative back fence, across which you and your neighbor inquire, share, vent, and argue.

I have had 4 encounters with Chatham County Sheriff Department deputies over the last few months and I must say I was VERY impressed. They made such a strong impression on me, I intended to submit a post some time ago. All of the officers were professional, attentive, respectful, and physically fit. One was checking on our neighborhood in his off time after a heinous crime was committed to a local pet. I appreciate that he took the time to talk to us and even gave our dog treats. Others volunteered their time to fingerprint over a 100 kids and to present 3 library programs. (The children loved them!) I am grateful that deputies shut down a crack house down the road. I also appreciate that there were officers slowing traffic when there was ice on the Haw River Bridge. And most recently, I was impressed at how quickly they took action when the prisoners escaped, thinking first of our children. They clearly had a plan of action. I commend Sheriff Webster and the outstanding team he has put together.
-------------------- 10 -------------------- Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 18:40:38 EST From: Bprentice2-at-aol.com Subject: Re:Jailbreak
Sorry, Sherri but I've gotta side with Cal on this one, despite the fact that your hubby was out re-apprehending bad guy all through the night. You mentioned working with the facts, so here they are as I know them: The jail was full, almost to capacity... I believe the N&O said 50 out of 51 spots were taken. The prisoners that escaped did so by overpowering the only two people on duty The two people on duty were a 50+ yr old man who had a few months "jailkeeper" experience and a 60+ yr old woman who had about a year of Chatham County jailkeeper expereince, but 15+ years previous experience in SC The 5 prisoners that escaped could have released the remaining 45 prisoners, but they didn't (imagine what THAT would have been like!) The break came as a result of the jailkeepers NOT following policy. They were supposed to keep a locked door between them when they went into the cell block for lockdown, but didn't. This allowed BOTH of them to be overpowered. The breakout wasn't discovered for a couple of hours, and then only because another officer was delivering prisoner #51 to the jail, making it a full house. The N&O reported that jail personnel had fallen out of the habit of following this particular policy, and had been doing this wrong for months (that may be more N&O opinion than fact, I grant you that). While 4 of the 5 were captured pretty quickly, one is still on the loose. Given these FACTS, I agree with Cal. We should be incensed that the sheriff's office has allowed untrained and non-conforming (to policy) officers to put our entire community at risk. I think the Council should call for a complete review of the Sheriff's office, staff, policies, and procedures, and ensure that this will never happen again. As Cal said, this isn't Mayberry. Lets make sure we don't rely on a "Barney Fife" staff. Not only do we need to clean up the training and ensure policies are followed, but better keep some good home security procedures in place as well. This is no longer a "leave the keys in the car and the doors unlocked" community. The faster we accept that fact, the sooner we will all be a bit safer. BP

Does anyone know how to make a stand up doll cake? Or do you know someone that makes them and is not a grocery store? I need one for at least 60 people so I am thinking I could just get a stand up doll cake and I would make or get cupcakes to feed everyone. Just wondering if anyone has made one and it turned out well or if I should just buy one and if so from where? Thanks so much in advance for all of the info!
Thanks again,

Gene..as always thanks for your service, the chatlist truly helps keep me informed of the local hub-bub. Great entertainment/great price. personally, I think you'd be a fine addition to our local school board. Literacy alone, qualifies your candidacy..with half the effort put into our schools that this (chatlist) takes, we, as taxpayers/parents/concerned citizens would be well rewarded for our support of you. You got my vote and thanks greg jones
