I live approx. 5 miles west of Pittsboro- In 2001, a semi-wild tabby cat showed up at my door. I fed it. I named him Jody.He stayed two day and left, back for two days, etc. (I had him altered that same year. He is up to date with Rabies shots, but will be due for another 3 year shot in Aug.) he stayed with me almost all the time. Once in a while, he would be gone for two days.
after about six years,Starting sometimes in Sept. he began to disappear for a couple of days, then back for 2 days. Then he would not be around all day, but show up for night feeding and then leave. This last time, he was gone for 2 full weeks, showed up for about 30 mins. and had a little milk and that is the last I have seem of him. Somebody is feeding him, he looks great. All of my nearest neighbors have dogs, so I know he is not staying with them- Please click on the web-site below and look at his picture- and please email me if you know anything about him.

Window Cat Looking for Home
Out of the darkness night with green eyes blazing, Window Cat appears scratching at our door. Night after night, Window Cat makes his way to Chatham Forest searching for a warm place, a bowl of milk and perhaps bit of catnip.
Window Cat is as black as the night, fluffy with a touch of white on his chest. By his appearance he is well fed, some girth around him and well behaved overall.
He comes out of the night air to scratch, scratch at our back window door. He is looking, searching, reaching out for a new home.
Window Cat appears to be stray. He has been visiting my home for more than a week now--mostly at night but now he is also arriving during the day. If you have lost a black cat with green eyes, fluffy and full then he may be yours. Let us know and you can come get him.
Good-bye Window Cat! Alas and anon, until the night comes when scratching, scratching you come again at our door!

McIntyre's Author Event: Debbie Lee Wesselmann
Debbie Lee Wesselmann visits McIntyre's Fine Books to discuss her book Captivity. This story of a primatologist and her troubled brother explores the issues of animal rights, betrayal, and love. "A South Carolina chimpanzee sanctuary affiliated with a university provides the unusual setting for Wesselmann's powerful second novel...Dana Armstrong, a primatologist, acquired her understanding of chimpanzees at great personal cost, having been raised along with her younger brother, Zack with a female chimp as a sibling (they communicated using sign language) until a tragic event ended the experiment. Now she must deal with an even more traumatic event. One day Dana arrives at the sanctuary, where she's the director, to discover that someone has damaged buildings and released chimpanzees unadapted to the wild. As Dana battles to save the sanctuary, personal and professional jealousies, campus politics, the fate of the chimpanzees and the stirring stories of Dana and her family play out in unforgettable fashion. With empathetic insight, the author precisely observes both human and animal behavior." (from Publishers Weekly starred review.) Call McIntyre's Fine Books at (919) 542-3030 for more details.

McIntyre's Author Event: Adam Shepard
Local author Adam Shepard joins us at McIntyre's to discuss Scratch Beginnings: Me $25, and the Search for the American Dream, his personal discovery of the American Dream which he calls a rebuttal to a book called Nickel and Dimed. Adam started with $25 and the clothes on his back, picked a random city out of a hat, with the premise that he wouldn't use his credit history, contacts, or education history and in one year have $2500, a car, and a furnished apartment. Essentially, he was set on discovering if the American Dream is alive or if it has died out. Call McIntyre's Fine Books at (919) 542-3030 for more details.

McIntyre's Author Event: Susan Gregg Gilmore
McIntyre's Fine Books welcomes author Susan Gregg Gilmore as she visits to read from Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen, set in the early 1970's. The town of Ringgold, Georgia has a population of 1,923, one traffic light, one Dairy Queen, and one Catherine Grace Cline. Daughter of Ringgold's Baptist preacher, Catherine Grace is quick-witted, more than a little stubborn, and dying to escape her small-town life. Every Saturday afternoon, she sits at the Dairy Queen, eating Dilly Bars and plotting her getaway to Atlanta. And when, with the help of a family friend, the dream becomes a reality, she immediately packs her bags, leaving behind her family and the boy she loves to claim the life she's always imagined. For readers of Fannie Flagg and Sheri Reynolds, here is a witty and unforgettable debut novel about a young Southern girl caught between two worlds, and coming of age in the space therein. A resident of Nashville, Tennessee, Susan Gregg Gilmore has written for the Chattanooga Free Press, the Los Angeles Times, and the Christian Science Monitor. This is her first novel. Hi Chatham Chatlist:
I am Cornelia "Kip" Lee, a dance artist currently living at the Durham edge of Chapel Hill, and I've lived and worked in Chatham County previously. I dance and choreograph for the sheer joy of it and also to inspire people to believe in themselves, and I teach dance as a wonderful vehicle for sparking creativity and engaging in personal and social issues in an embodied way. (I have a website where you can read more about what I do if you're interested: www.airbornedance.org) I also practice yoga and meditation, do visual art and write.
I am also looking for a new home, somewhere in the N. Chatham-Chapel Hill--Durham-Hillsborough area, starting by March 15. I'm looking for a quiet location convenient to Chapel Hill and Durham, with enough space for a bedroom plus small office, that includes or has access to a full kitchen, such as a small house, quiet duplex/townhouse or garage apartment or something like that. Preferably under $725/month. I'm non-smoking, quiet, and very responsible. Please feel free to email or call me at corneliakip.at.mac.com or (919) 428-3335.
Thanks! "Kip"

The Watercallers are about as old-fashioned in their approach as you can get. They write original music inspired by traditional Southern styles including jazz, country, bluegrass, gospel, and folk.

-------------------- 40 -------------------- Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 19:03:07 -0500 From: "Matthew Markie" mmarkie.at.earthlink.net Subject: Girl Scout Cookies have arrived!
Over the next few weeks you will see the Girl Scouts of our community out and about selling the popular Girl Scout Cookies! This year the sale program will run through mid March and Girl Scout Troops will be at many of our popular businesses here in Chatham County. The cookies cost $3.50 per box and the proceeds help support the local troops as well as the Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines. Last year our girls raised over $13,000 for the local troops and, as part of Operation Cookie Drop, the community purchased over 800 boxes for our military troops.
There are no excuses to not buy Girl Scout Cookies, we have everyone's favorites Thin Mints and Caramel Delights (Samoas); as well as the traditional Shortbread (Trefoil) cookie and the Peanut Butter Patties and Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies. This year's new cookies are the Lemonade (a shortbread cookie with a tangy lemon icing) and the Cinna-Spins (crispy cinnamon swirls in a convenient 100 calorie pack)... and if you are watching all your calories, you can again make a contribution to Operation Cookie Drop where these donations go to the purchase of Cookies for our members of all the armed services around the world.
Selling cookies is a tradition that dates back as early as 1917 when Girl Scouts began selling home-baked cookies to raise money to help their troop and community. In 1936, Girl Scouts of the USA began licensing cookie bakers. Since then, the selling of Girl Scout Cookies has grown into a highly successful program that helps girls learn and practice important life skills while earning proceeds for their team and council activities.
We hope you will support our Girls Scouts as they use the money raised from this program to participate in community service, sports, camping, science, skill building and leadership opportunities. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world (and Chatham County) a better place.
Thanks for your support !

Dear Neighbors, please indulge me as I make a plea for your heart and head this Valentine's Day. I am a volunteer and financial contributor to Goathouse Cat Refuge. Like many of you, I love animals and contribute to numerous animal rescue and support organizations. But I have developed a special place in my heart for the Goathouse Cat Refuge http://www.goathouserefuge.org/, and I hope that you will likewise consider it for part of your charitable giving. Here's why: My husband and I live along the Haw River, and we have taken in numerous strays and abused animals. We are always dumbfounded, and heartbroken, by the cruelty many of the creatures that share our planet endure at the hands of humans, but we are also floored by the astronomical vet bills that result in "doing the right thing." Goathouse Cat Refuge is an oasis in this madness, a sanctuary for the unwanted, a second chance for cats that have been discarded by our society. Here, adoptions are regular occurrences. But when that doesn't happen, cats enjoy a playful and full life, free from the threat of being destroyed because they aren't cute enough or in the right place at the right time. Those of you who know me know that I am a tough sell. I do my due diligence and open my wallet and time only to those organizations that pass fiduciary mustard as well as curb appeal. Goathouse Cat Refuge is the real deal, a model for what kind, sane, and wise stewards of our planet hope is the future. The refuge is selling bricks in order to construct an isolation building for the purpose of protecting the good health and happiness of current cat residents. New cats will receive medical and personality evaluations in order to treat contagious and chronic conditions in a quiet and supervised area. Time in a separate building will also allow the staff and volunteers of the Refuge to get to know the unique personalities of each new cat in order to determine the most appropriate way to integrate the new resident in the general population. Neighbors, will you open your hearts and heads to Goathouse Cat Refuge this Valentine's Day? Please visit: http://www.goathouserefuge.org/Goathouse_Cat_Refuge.html and buy a brick online. Many thanks for your time and consideration. With Respect, Diane Pettus mailto:dianepettus.at.embarqmail.com dianepettus.at.embarqmail.com

Pet overpopulation is still at crisis levels in Chatham County. There simply aren’t enough good homes for all the dogs and cats born here every year. We all bear the burden of this problem through increased costs for animal control. Benefits of spaying or neutering go beyond population control. Fixed animals behave better and are healthier, including having reduced risks for many cancers. Many people recognize the benefits of fixing their pets but cannot afford to do so. To help, Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. is offering vouchers for reduced-cost spay/neuter surgery for Chatham County residents on public assistance or with household incomes below $40,000. A $20 co-pay per animal is required. Download an application for this program from our website at www.chathamanimalrescue.org. Click on Low Cost Spay Neuter Resources.
