Creature Coalition Animal Rescue in Pittsboro needs volunteers of all ages
to help with day to day care of our dogs, cats, rabbits and chickens.  You
can walk dogs, trim toenails, brush or bathe, clean kennels, give kisses
and so many other important jobs ---any and all help will be greatly
appreciated and no experience is necessary.  We have several very small
sweet senior dogs who would love to spend some time with a parent/child
duo.  Call us for more info   919-542-7585         PS:  if the line rings
busy, please call back!

HS,
Yes, I am making some assumptions.
Assumption 1:  The gentlemen that got out of custody are bad guys.   That is
probably why they were in jail.
Assumption 2:  Something is not right at the Jail.
The inability of the Sheriff's department to keep these guys locked up
signals one of two things to me;  1) There was a failure in a system that
allowed this to happen, or 2) incompetence.
I would hope that Sheriff Webster and his fine crew are shocked.  I would
hope that everybody in Chatham is shocked.
This isn't Mayberry.  Our big problem is not a drunk who needs to go sober
up in a cell.  These violent criminals overpowered police officers,
breached whatever security system the "jail" had and freed themselves to
walk the streets of Pittsboro.  That does not scare you?!  Wake up Lady.
They were walking the same streets that we meet with our neighbors on, the
streets that our kids play on.
I feel perfectly comfortable rushing to judgement on this one.  The Sheriff
failed to keep some bad dudes locked in room and off the street, he failed
in his primary duty to 'Protect and Serve.'
The illusion of safety is fragile, be vigilant, be aware.

I agree completely!  My understanding is that a law enforcement officer was overtaken??? My initial question is;  Is he/she OK? Beyond that concern, I of course wonder if the jail was over-capacity, and or understaffed, perhaps all related to peripheral (yet driving) issues of growth, insufficient tax base/funding to support infrastructure, ya-dee-da.... all the stuff we have been grappling with on the Chatlist!  Let's get the facts.... finger pointing rarely solves problems or creates solutions.

I think the Chatham Record had an article last week about how many
people have been ticketed as a result of traffic stops conducted over
the past year; just recycled my copy so I can't check for sure.  Might
have been the N&O.  It was a big number.  Seat belts, insurance,
registration, license problems, and then whatever else comes from
driving while stupid.

We've had several stops in this part of the county.

I know there are a number of opinions about the civil rights elements of
a traffic stop; personally, I vote for almost anything that will
convince our local assemblage of really bad guys to move away.

I very ever read this chat list because so many people do complain and who wants to hear negativism all the time but when I do and you put down our Deputies and Sheriff this get under my skin since these FINE Men and Women are risking their lives for ours including one being my Husband. I agree with HS (thrifty_lady.yahool.com, that is what is wrong with this chat list at times people are quick to pass judgment and don't know all the facts!!!!! While every Deputy in the county, including my husband, was out searching for these guys,  which kept me up all night,  the rest of this County was in bed peacefully sleeping not even realizing what was going on in their surroundings until you woke up the next morning. And may I add they did catch four of the inmates within about 3 1/2 hours which is a pretty good record time. The Sheriff and the Deputies are out Risking Their Lives for Ours and to that we should pray to GOD and be very THANKFUL EVERYDAY AND not PASS JUDG
MENT so quickly it is not our JOB to Pass Judgment that is GOD's!!!!! SOME of you people really don't have a clue and and must have too much time on your hands and as I have said before if you think you can do any better then why don't you wear a BADGE!!!!!! As for the School and the JAIL location, it has been here a long time way before Sheriff Webster was Sheriff and this is not his doing, if you want to complain, complain to the County Commissioners but in all fairness the schools and buses where checked out and that is why there was a delay because it was for the safety of our Children and Faculty as a precaution. If that is all people have to do is gripe and complain then get a real life but Appreciate the ONES WHO ARE OUT THERE TRYING TO SAVE and PROTECT OURS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might I also add we should show concern for the Jailer who was attacked and be thankful nothing worse happened. Also, what many of you don't realize is that after most of these Deputies had been out all night searching they still had to report to their post and Schools and continue to work so I say give it up to
Our CHATHAM COUNTY HEROES, SHERIFF WEBSTER AND HIS DEPUTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Concerned Deputies wife,
Sherri

The Chatham Chatlist is the front porch of Chatham County -  Where neighbors discuss what's going on, share experiences, opinions and recipes, give and get advice.  All that's missing is the big ole glass of ice tea.

It's tax time - anyone have a recommendation for an accountant?  Our company
has grown so much, we're looking for someone who can offer great advice on
the nuances of an S-corp and fully represent us if we were to be audited.

I also have a couple things that need fixing and was hoping to get a
recommendation or two: a jeweler to resize my wedding ring and a shoe repair
store  to fix a boot my dog chewed the heel of.

Subject: Chatlist defined

Chatlist Defined

To put a definition to the chatlist would be difficult as it is different things to different people . To some it's a way to advertise on Friday to sell odds n ends and make people aware of yard sales and services . To others it's a forum to debate politics and vent frustrations over government issues .  Many simply lurk in the background not posting anything to read the rantings and raving of others  or to see what's going on in the community .  I for one have used it for all of the above and to express myself in ways I could never do otherwise . It has opened doors for me not only to others in Chatham County but the world .

Growing up I attended church on Sunday and there was always a group of men or women that talked immediately after church . It was the local gossip get together where everyone found out what everyone else was doing .  Sometimes gossip got out of hand but as a rule it was an important source of information to others as to what was going on in the community .  We depended on opinions of fellow church goers for politics and community events . There were always groups of men sitting at Reno Sharps store debating politics and county government whilst discussing what kind of feed will top out their hogs quicker .  The women folk would gather at the grocery store or one of the Wednesday night church events  to discuss what the men were up to and everything else related in the community .

I came along after the telephone started to replace many of these gatherings with quick conversations from the convenience of home . Everyone still gathered and communicated in the same ways but the telephone increased the speed information traveled around the community .. Its  lightning fast ,, if you don't believe me go hug your neighbors spouse in their front yard ,, you will get phone calls later in the day to ask how long you have been having a fling with them  :)   The only thing is with the phone you can only reach so many people with information depending on how many you know . As anything else things tend to be exaggerated from one person to the other and a cut finger will become a broken arm in a half hours time .

I was introduced to the chatlist by a friend who felt I could benefit from voicing my opinions in an online community .  I wasn't sure how I would fit in but I realized the chatlist was a beautiful combination of all of the above forms of person to person communication but better .  There is a diverse group of people from all walks of life that subscribe to this new technological wonder that regularly voice their opinions and often will tell you yours .  I like many others felt a bit disconnected form other parts of the county . I didn't understand many things that went on and I was critical over people I didn't even know . The chatlist enabled me to meet many people from all over this county and gave me a new sense of community . I realized we all have a voice to be heard and this is a perfect place to speak it .  The wonderful thing is unlike person to person communication ,, what you say is read exactly as you write it . Everyone hears it right out of the horses mouth
. It eliminates a good deal of ( exaggeration ) unless we are discussing politics and there will always be tall tales with that subject .  Everyone can form a personal opinion what you say in their own way and voice their thought back to you or the entire group as a whole . There is no lost meaning through the word of mouth as your statement is passed along online exactly as you voiced it  .

In a generic way I would define the chatlist as : Electronic community bulletin board moderated for basic discussion of community events , classifieds and county politics .  To me it is a great deal more . It's a place to meet new friends ,, socialize and learn new things about my community . It ties the entire county together and keeps us connected . It is the end result of many years of different types of person to person communication that make us all neighbors and friends .  Its an important part of what makes Chatham County a great place to live ..   Well that's my 2 cents worth ,keep up the good work Gene ,   Goodnite  Mark  :)
