Reminder about Classified posts

This is a friendly reminder (again) that no matter when you send in a classified post it will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist. Please do NOT email me asking where your classified post is. It will not appear until the Friday Chatlist. If you send in your classified post on Friday AFTER the classified chatlist has already gone out, guess what? You classified post will NOT appear until the FOLLOWING Friday's Classified Chatlist.

If you get an automated receipt after you send in your post that means we HAVE received your post. Regular emails are posted within 24 to 48 hours. Of course, classified posts will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist.

The Friday Classifieds are very popular and it's not unusual to have over 30 to 40 items on the list. Do NOT email me about a missing post unless you have double checked the chatlist again.

The general rule of thumb is that you can post the same service or the same items twice in a row or twice in a month.
Please adhere to this rule. It also helps a lot if you use some descriptive text in your heading besides FOR SALE ie used TV for sale, yardwork services, Queen-Size Bed and lots of other household stuff

Last item! Please remember that the Classified Chatlist is a FREE and popular community service. Neighbors like dealing with neighbors and it's nice to buy stuff or services from folks you "know". Following certain guidelines makes it a better experience for us all.

I've been very impressed with the Framers Market in Chapel Hill. Locally owned business run by very friendly and helpful people. We buy framing supplies from them for my wife's artwork.

I don't know the name of the strip mall they're in but it's sort of across
15-501 bypass from Eastgate Shopping Center.

Subject: complaint about Ace Hardware

I see nothing wrong with complaining about places that make you uncomfortable. I would like to know for my own protection. I had a "not fun" time at General Timber recently. I bought my lumber and when I went out to the yard to have it loaded they said the "loaders" were at lunch and I would have to wait an hour. So, unhappily, I waited (I had carpenters back at the house sitting waiting for these boards). I watched men walk around all over the lot and around my turck, but "it was not their job to load lumber". When the 20-something loaders came back from lunch they said my truck was too small, but proceeded to go through a comedy of loading and unloading  everything this way and that way, and then shaking their heads as though I were too dumb to understand. All they had to say was - you'll have to have it delivered, but they didn't. They just said they didn't know what I was going to do.. So I went back inside to get my money back. The manager came out and started laughing at me because I was upset and shook his head and went back in his office. By this time I was outraged and said that I was appalled by their lack of respect. Only then did someone step up and say that for $20 the load could be delivered. I wonder if they would have treated their mothers or wives like that. I hate to say it but I wouldn't think of going there alone again. I warn my women friends not to go there, but never thought about telling the chatlist. I think it's good to know when places you are trying to do bu$iness with can be problematic.

They have done all SORTS of things for me over the past few years (certificates, posters, needlework, etc.), and everything has looked FABULOUS!  I don't have an "eye" for frame styles and mat colors myself, and they've been very nice about helping me with that.
I have seen a number of historical documents in their shop from time to time, so I know they're used to handling that sort of thing.  They used to run an antiques store, as well, so they know they value of items such as yours.

Jeff, in response to your quest for a phenomenal framer I can recommend Keepsakes Custom Picture Framing here in Pittsboro. I took two old items to them recently. One was a document from 1925 which they framed beautifully, using archival glass, and the other was a very old oil painting, which needed a simple frame to set it off, and it is now perfect. They have a great selection of frames and matts and are meticulous in handling details. You will be happy with their service.

That trailhead is at the far southern end of the American Tobacco Trail,
well into Wake County.  You will have to go about six miles north on the
trail to cross into Chatham County from there.

There are no trailheads in Chatham county, mainly because the past
commissioner majority wanted nothing to do with the ATT (I was at the
meeting where this was discussed, so this isn't just rhetoric.  They removed
from the consent agenda a proposal to lease the land for $1 a year and voted
it down because they didn't want any future commissioners to have the
opportunity to spend money on it.  The current commissioners are working on
catching up).    As a result the Chatham portion is "unimproved" and you
can't go all the way through Chatham on the trail, because of missing or
unimproved bridges.

The best way to get to the Chatham Portion is to use the parking area on
White Oak Church Road in Green Level.  The Chatham County line is about a
mile north on the trail from there.  To get to that parking area, turn onto
Lewter Shop Road off of 751, then right on White Oak Church and the parking
area will be on the left.

Subject: Chatham American Tobacco Trail Access

Hi Tricia and Chatlisters,

Depending on where you are coming from, probably the best place to
access the Chatham County portion of the American Tobacco Trail (ATT) is
at Wake County's White Oak Church Road Access. Go to
http://www.triangletrails.org/DIRECTIONS.HTM and scroll down about 1/2
down the page for directions.

Vernon M. mentioned to use the New Hill-Olive Chapel Road Access about
two miles south of US 64. That is a good access to to use too, but
you'll need to walk or ride north about 6.25 miles to get to the Chatham
County line from there.

Or you can email or call me at my number on the website if you need
better directions or have any questions.

The White Oak Church Road Access (as well as New Hill-Olive Chapel Road
Access) lets you park off the road in a patrolled parking area. There
are toilets and trail info, but no water.

From the parking area the White Oak Church Road Access, turn left or
north on the trail to go toward Chatham County. If you turn right or
south, you can go just about 5 miles to the New Hill-Olive Chapel Road
Access.

Go about a mile north, crossing Green Level Church Road to the end of
the compacted granite screenings surfaced trail. You enter Chatham
County about 100 feet from the end of the screenings. Pass through the
gate at the private drive. See the rules sign on your left. Continue
north for about two miles at your own risk on the grass, gravel and clay
surface trail to the currently undecked Panther Creek trestle. You'll
probably have to turn around here. You'll see mileage markers measured
from the south end of the trail at New Hill-Olive Chapel Road Access
every 1/2 mile on the right side of the trail. There is currently an
unnamed marker at 8.25 miles about 100 feet south of the trestle.

This Chatham County section of the ATT, along with the rest of the trail
in Chatham and in Durham south of I-40, has been cleared, cleaned, and
is maintained by over 400 volunteers and organizations organized by the
Triangle Rails-to-Trails Conservancy with the cooperation of the Chatham
Parks and Recreation and Durham P&R over the past four years or so.
Because of this volunteer work, these sections of the ATT are open for
safe use years ahead of when they could be formally opened by the
municipalities.

We've been working many Saturday mornings at 9 and other days in Chatham
for the last two years. All are welcome to join us! We mow all 4.5 miles
of trail in Chatham in the summer, so that is about to get started. We
are still working extensively about 1/4 mile north of the Chatham/Wake
line on some drainage issues on this long neglected section of the
trail. It is safely passable, but it narrows down a bit and it might be
a bit muddy, so you'll want to slow down a bit. If you see workers on
the trail, make sure they see you, get their attention and permission to
pass safely on around them.

For more info on volunteering on the ATT check out:
http://www.triangletrails.org/VOLUNTEERS.HTM
Go to the bottom of the page for a link to sign up for the Volunteers list.

You can also access this section of the ATT at New Hope Church Road. But
you'll have to park alongside this increasingly busy road. It is much
better to use the White Oak Church Road Access.
This section north of the County line is arguably the most scenic part
of the entire 22 mile-long (when completed) trail. Hope you enjoy it!

You can also access 2.4 miles of ATT in Chatham from O'Kelly Chapel
Road. Again, this is on-road parking. Be VERY careful when parking
alongside this very busy road, which is now a cut through from NC 751 to
NC 55, particularly if you have pets or children. You can go 1 mile
north to the undecked Northeast Creek trestle, or 1.4 miles south to the
other side of the Panther Creek trestle.

You can also access the ATT in Chatham at Scott King Road in southern
Durham. Again, this is on road parking but is fairly heavily used. Go
south about a mile to reach the other side of the undecked Northeast
Creek trestle. You will have entered Chatham County about 1/4 mile back
from this trestle. You can go north about 2 miles to Massey Chapel Road.

For those with dogs, remember that the Chatham County leash law applies
when walking or running on the ATT. Use the ATT in Chatham at your own
risk. Equestrians may use all of the trail in Chatham. Hunters use the
trail in Chatham during the appropriate seasons for access to NC
Wildlife Resources Game lands surrounding the two above mentioned trestles.

While the ATT in Chatham doesn't get as much use as the paved Durham
portion north of I-40, or the Wake compacted granite screenings portion;
it is growing in use and popularity. Please respect other trail users.

The ATT in Chatham, as well as the undecked trestles should be under
construction within the year. Funding is available from the NCDOT
Bicycle-Pedestrian Division and they say they have the plans ready to
go. Right now it is going through bureaucratic channels.

Please contact me if you have any additional questions. Enjoy the
American Tobacco Trail!

Happy Trails,

Benefits of spaying or neutering go beyond population control.  Fixed animals behave better and are healthier, including having reduced risks for many cancers.  Also, Animal Control costs can be reduced if we decrease the number of unwanted animals that end up at the shelter.  Some of these animals find homes but many are put down.

Be part of the solution.  Please spread the word to your Chatham County neighbors, friends and relatives.  Help save innocent lives! Get your dog or cat fixed!

I think it would have been more useful and responsible to find out the name

The tour is a great way to support local farms and reconnect with the land
that feeds us. Bring a cooler because you'll be able to buy farm fresh
products direct from the growers. Farms on the tour are open for visits
between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission buttons are still
available at the advance ticket price of $25 per car. One button is good for
as many people as you can fit in one vehicle, and good for as many farms as
you can stand to visit in two days.

Plus, your Farm Tour Button gets you half off the single-day admission price
for the Shakori Hills Festival of Music and Dance, good for up to two people
per button--a savings of up to $34! Farm Tour buttons are available at
Chatham Marketplace and the CFSA office on the Circle in Pittsboro. For more
information visit www.carolinafarmstewards.org or call 542 2402.

Subject: Accomplished Poets at the Marketplace

After an afternoon on the Farm Tour or at Shakori Hills or whatever else may
grab you this weekend, stop by Chatham Marketplace for dinner and be
entertained by two local and very accomplished poets!

Book Reading and Signing with poets Alex Grant and Roy Jacobstein

Alex Grant’s chapbook, "Chains & Mirrors", was the 2006 Randall Jarrell

imaginative book that announces a hell of a good new poet!"  Alex won first
prize in the 2006 Kakalak Carolina Poets Anthology and was the 2004 winner
of WMSU's Pavel Srut Poetry Fellowship in Prague.  He is a native Scot now
living in Chapel Hill.

Roy Jacobstein’s latest book, A Form of Optimism, won the Samuel French
