Reminder about Classified posts

This is a friendly reminder (again) that no matter when you send in a classified post it will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist. Please do NOT email me asking where your classified post is. It will not appear until the Friday Chatlist. If you send in your classified post on Friday AFTER the classified chatlist has already gone out, guess what? You classified post will NOT appear until the FOLLOWING Friday's Classified Chatlist.

If you get an automated receipt after you send in your post that means we HAVE received your post. Regular emails are posted within 24 to 48 hours. Of course, classified posts will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist.

The Friday Classifieds are very popular and it's not unusual to have over 30 to 40 items on the list. Do NOT email me about a missing post unless you have double checked the chatlist again.

The general rule of thumb is that you can post the same service or the same items twice in a row or twice in a month.
Please adhere to this rule. It also helps a lot if you use some descriptive text in your heading besides FOR SALE ie used TV for sale, yardwork services, Queen-Size Bed and lots of other household stuff

Last item! Please remember that the Classified Chatlist is a FREE and popular community service. Neighbors like dealing with neighbors and it's nice to buy stuff or services from folks you "know". Following certain guidelines makes it a better experience for us all.

Do you have a child that needs tutoring?

-- I have experience in grades 2 through 5, a BA in English, and am NC certified in grades K-6.
-- I taught 2nd grade for 5 years, so I understand the importance of building a strong foundation in reading, writing, and math skills.
-- I taught 5th grade for 3 years, so I know how to help get students ready for end-of-grade tests.
-- I've been trained in the Saint Augustine Reading Program (Orton Gillingham theory with Wilson materials), which concentrates on phonetic development, fluency, and comprehension to improve reading skills.

Subject: Wanted: CORA Publicity Director

The CORA (Chatham OutReach Alliance) Food Pantry in Pittsboro is looking for one or more volunteers to serve as Publicity Director(s) or members of a CORA Publicity Group. The all-volunteer Food Pantry provides an emergency supply of food (about a week's worth), as many as four times a year to Chatham County residents who are in need of community support to keep themselves and their families fed.
Dissemination of news about CORA's activities and progress is essential for maintaining and growing support in the northern Chatham community we serve.

The Publicity Director(s) or Group is responsible for handling the public relations activity of the CORA Food Pantry. This activity
includes:
- Writing, layout, production, and mailing of quarterly communications to Pantry friends and supporters regarding news, activity, and donation solicitation
- Researching, interviewing, writing, and placement of news releases and articles for area newspapers and other news organs regarding special events sponsored by CORA or on CORA's behalf, and on various aspects of CORA's on-going programs and mission
- Writing, layout, and production of brochures, pamphlets, and posters describing Pantry goals, organization, policy and progress.
- Writing, photography, and maintenance of the CORA Food Pantry website
(www.corafoodpantry.org) on a monthly or bi-monthly basis to keep the public informed about CORA and its activity in the community.

These activities require about 15-17 hours of work per month.

If you have the skills and time to commit to a good cause, addressing hunger in Chatham County, and are interested in working on publicity with other dedicated and energetic people in a grassroots volunteer organization in Chatham County, please contact CORA's President, Udo Koopmann at uko41.at.bellsouth.net .

From: "William Cummings" <cummings2000.at.hotmail.com>
Subject: Adopt Puppies from Pakistan!

I’m in Pakistan, the puppies are safe and thriving in Deep Chatham. They’re going fast, but several are still hoping for homes. It all started when my cousin was house-sitting the last time I was over here. He found the soon-to-be parents: “Stumpy” and “Sweetie” at the dump (recycling center) and brought them home. Stumpy is kind of a beagle/basset low-rider and Sweetie is an impish but pure-hearted lil’white dog that could jump thru flaming hoops and such. They’re a nimble and witty pair. My speculation was that there’d been a hit and run along 87 and that their clown master was likely demised. In any case, I have no doubt that these two are former circus dogs. They know a million tricks. So I’ve been taking care of them since the Fall, but not carefully enough to forestall another generation of six midget wonder pups. It broke my heart to leave them, but some of the places I go, they could end-up on the menu! They are cute, fat and spunky, and wagging—white ones, champagne  ones, and one w/spots and almost five weeks old.

Anyway, it would be a blessing to them, to me, to my housesitters, and to my friends who are helping to look after them, if we could find a spot in your heart for a spring puppy. Contact me via email, cummings2000.at.hotmail.com and I can hook you up with their tenders and arrange for you to meet the wee ones. Only three left! You can be sure I’ll take appropriate measures to avoid more and donate appropriately to the shelter.

Subject: Well/Water service

I wanted to thank everyone that sent a reccomendation for a company to service our water softener system. i ultimately went with Eugene Smelick, VP for Kinetico. I wanted to let everyonr know how awesome his service call went. I am the type of person that can do thingsd fro myself once i've either seen it done onceor if the system is explained to me. Eugene drove down from Reidsville (his prior appointment) and explained the system to me; how each component works, its required maintenance, and suggestions for improvement. What i really wanted to convey to all of us in Chathamland, is that he did all of this for FREE!!! Yeah sure he plugged his products, but it was done in almost in passing, and was definately not pushy.

Subject: free bathroom vanity

I have a 30 year old bathroom dark brown wooden vanity intact with sink and faucets free for the taking.  It's not in great shape, but decent and it works.  Rough dimensions - 24 1/2" wide, 23 1/4"deep (forgot to measure height, sorry).  Chatham Habitat can't take it because it is in Orange County (Heritage Hills neighborhood off of Smith Level) and Durham Habitat doesn't want it.  Anyone out there interested?  If so, email me so we can arrange for you to come get it.

Subject: Aquariums  and Native Aquatic Plants Wanted for Environmental  Education at Shakori Hills

Shakori Hills Non-Profit is developing an Environmental  Enhancement and Education Program to protect and improve native plant and animal habitat at the 72acre Shakori Hills.  Another goal is to help people learn about the variety and lives of  native animals and plants (and therefore become friends and stewards of the land and Nature).

If you have any intact aquariums that you would like to donate, they will be used at the April 19-22 Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival to  display some local amphibians and reptiles (and maybe other animals and plants). These animals will be released after the festival.
And we also would  like additional native aquatic plants that can be used in our pond and creek enhancement project.

If you have donations of aquariums or plants or have an interest in helping with the Environmental Enhancement or Education or the future goal of helping at-risk adolescents through nature related activities,  please contact me by phone or email.

Thanks very much

Leif
