Subject: Field Hearing on New Fire Safety Issues at Harris Plant

Senator Ellie Kinnaird is co-hosting a Field Hearing to air public comment and concern regarding Shearon Harris Fire Safety and Compliance before members of the NRC. The Hearing will be held at the Barn at Fearrington, Thursday, March 22, at 7PM.

The purpose of the Field hearing will be 1) to address the questions raised in a petition filed by several groups with the NRC last year which sought answers as to the exact nature of Harris' compliance status, and 2) a time frame for requiring Harris' full compliance with federal fire protection regulation. These issues issues are of growing concern following the January 29th NRC decision not to require protection of US nuclear plants against attacts by air, and that nuclear plant operators manage large fires or explosions.

Elected official and citizens of Chatham are urged to attend this Hearing and voice their questions and concerns about the safety at the plant what this new decision by NRC means for all of us.

Maurice -

Try this place in Hillsborough - http://formalwearoutlet.com/

I bought a tux from them 7 years ago for little more than it costs to rent one.

Can anyone recommend a good HVAC company that won't charge an arm and a leg for a service call WITHOUT having a service contract?
Thanks

Board of Education meeting 12 March 2007

Very full meeting but disappointing as to attendance. I certainly thought the agenda would have filled the room with interested parents but there were less than a dozen. If discussing how and where we need to build schools, potential redistricting issues and how taxpayers’ money is to be spent has little interest, what would motivate folks to come see the workings of their Board of Educaton?

The public hearing for the proposed budget had only one speaker and her concern was a welcome one. She is a teacher and pointed out a program being administered locally which, in turn, should be kept local. The proposed budget had a $50,000 staff proposal to hire an outside team which her school was running for much less.

This is a preview of Board of Education meeting 12 March 2007.

Subject: People who do not pay their property taxes

It is just staggering to me at the number of people and businesses that do not pay their property taxes as was shown in the last weeks March 8th edition of  the Chatham News/Record. 5 Long pages to be exact of those that did not pay  their taxes.

I don't know about you but it gets me a little upset when I pay my taxes  and a slew of others don't.  Now there might be a good reason for some but  not for the thousands of others that were listed.

One thing did concern me was the listing of Voller Properties.  I  would like to know if that is the mayor's business.  If it is it does not  show good example for others.

What is going to be done to collect the past due property taxes.

Subject: Women's Yadkin Valley Wine Tour

I'm thinking of organizing a women's weekend wine tour this spring or early summer so thought I'd put out some feelers to gauge interest. Tour would include transportation (designated driver), tour of 3-4 wineries, dinner, overnight lodging, one or two wineries on Sunday and return trip back to Pittsboro or Chapel Hill area. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in doing please respond with the following information:

Name
Age (or thereabouts)
Preferred departure location
Budget considerations
Weekends Available

Thanks for your responses!

Subject: Park Closed

The Town of Pittsboro decided to close the Kiwanis Playground until they can get the dead trees cut down.  All of the gates have been chained. I contacted the Town of PBO at 542-4621 and was told that they are currently taking bids and hope to reopen the park as soon as possible.

I talked with a secretary, but maybe it will help if more of us call and ask to speak with the Mayor Randy Voller or Acting Town Manager Paul Messick.  I want the town to know that people do use the park and will miss being able to play there.
