Hi.  I am looking for an outside chainlink dog kennel.  It must be 6' high and something like 10 x 10 panels would be great, but 10 x 8 is okay too.  It doesn't have to be a complete kennel, seperate panels okay as i am working off of other fencing.  If you have an old kennel in pretty good shape that you'd like to sell, please contact me via this post or call 6663-2162.  Thanks.  Nan

> Unfortunately he exaggerates the savings also.  I doubt

I didn't exaggerate savings.  I merely extrapolated from the starting data you provided based on my total number of lightbulbs, using your average of
5 hours per day usage.  You are correct, in the real world, not all light bulbs are used 5 hours per day.  But in the real world, an 8000 hour bulb is not going to last 8000 hours.

I do have 30 light bulbs in my house, not counting a couple of small night lights and the light that is in the hood over my oven.  Currently, 16 or so of those are compact fluorescents with the rest being incandescent.
The incandescents are slowly being replaced with CF bulbs as they burn out.  I just had a good number of incandescents because I tend to buy such things in bulk and wanted to use them all up and switch to CF as I run out of them.

I do have a number of bulbs that burn far more than 5 hours per day, and many that do not burn for more than 2 hours per day.

> very much that he has 30 100 watt light bulbs burning 5 hours a day.
> That would add up to 450 Kilowatts/month at a cost of about $45, a
> VERY high figure.  I have 20 bulbs myself but six are cpfs and most
> are less than 100 watts.

I actually have a total of 32, not counting the 3 watt bulbs over the island in my kitchen and a couple night lights and desk lamps, but I wont go into listing every one here because that isnt the ultimate point.

My current electric bill is nearly 200 dollars a month.  This includes usage of a heat pump, assorted electronic gear, assorted computer gear, an electric hot water heater and a dish washer.  I currently use a programmable thermostat to control the heat/AC and keep the temps cool in the winter and warmer in the summer (the house sits right now at a comfortable 68 degrees, and the AC doesn't kick on until it hits 80).

> In fact I started out by saying "They seem like a good idea but the
> savings is much less than stated."  I'm buying some more today.

And calculating ACTUAL savings is never going to be precise.  My usage is far different from yours, I imagine, just as the quantity and size of bulbs in my house is going to be different from yours.  Then again, the reported savings that one could expect in buying a Hybrid car are far less than stated as well.

In any case, I think we both agree that CFs seem to save money in the long run.  And I dont think I berated you by any stretch of the Chatlist imagination, especially in light of some of the other discussions that have gone on here over the last couple months.  I am, however, making a counter point to the statement that the savings are much less than stated.

But here is some more information:

Nifty online calculator that can estimate what actual savings would be as well as calculate usage and show a comparison between various bulb
wattages:
http://www.sdearthtimes.com/ET_Lighting_Calc.html

A google search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=fluorescent%20bulbs%20savings

Of course, the Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_fluorescent_lamp

Info on Compact Fluorescents from the U. S. Government:
http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=cfls.pr_cfls
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR, we would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars.
Earning the Government’s ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs:

    * Use at least 2/3 less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light, and last up to 10 times longer.
    * Save $30 or more in energy costs over each bulb’s lifetime
    * Generate 70 percent less heat, so they’re safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling.
    * In addition to other quality requirements, must turn on instantly, produce no sound, and fall within a warm color range or be otherwise labeled as providing cooler color tones.
    * Are available in different sizes and shapes to fit in almost any fixture, for indoors and outdoors.

Where to Use CFLs:

    * To get the most energy savings, replace bulbs where lights are on the most, such as your family and living room, kitchen, dining room, and porch.
    * Some CFLs have trouble operating in enclosed fixtures. Check the CFL's packaging for any restrictions on use.

Subject: chickens to trade; also looking for goats and muscovy ducks

Are you tired of seeing the same old chickens running around your yard, day after day?  Bring some variety into your life . . .  I would like to trade my lovely, healthy flock for either Barred Rock or preferably Buckeyes.
These chickens were hatched 05/06 and are first generation from the hatchery.  A breeding pair of blue cochins, one rooster and three Silver-laced Wyandotte hens, a couple of Delaware hens, quite a few Aracuana hens (mostly green and blue egg layers), a couple of Partridge Rock hens, Golden Cochins and more are available.  Give me a call if you would like to trade or just buy a few chickens outright.

I am also looking for 1-4 CAE-free dairy goats. I would like to stick with
one breed, but I'm open to almost any configuration.   A "retired" doe or
wether could easily fit into my plan.

Muscovies getting out of hand?  I'm looking for 2 - 4.  Not for show - looks aren't important.

Thanks for any leads,
Hannah

Subject: Need 3 estimate for installation of French Door change out

I ordered a French Door from the new Lowes in October, when it came in after we got it home we discovered it was made wrong, but only after the old door was damaged in removal.

I called Lowes was assured that they would ordered a new one and the manufacture would pay for the cost of the second installation. (After a delay waiting for the manufacture to agree that yes they made it wrong)

It is now 5 months later I still do not have my new French door, it is due on the 20th of the month and I have been informed I need 3 estimates for the installation, I have to pay for it and they will then reimburse me for my check. Lowes will charge me 35.00 to come out and give me an estimate (so much for service)

I know that there are many builders, handy men, and carpenters around, please I need these estimates, the gentleman that was helping me has returned to school.

I have had allot of contact with Tommy Thompson at Lowes, he seems to be wanting to help but this has been a nightmare considering the cold, time of no light through the window, etc.

Please email me estimates so that I can submit them to Lowes and stop the flow of very cold air coming through my house.

Subject: Looking for a room and a bath.........................

This is for my husband.  He is 73 years old and has had several minor strokes.  He is able to walk and talk, he is just not able to be alone for long periods of time.
I am ill and am going to have to have  surgery, probably this spring.  I don't feel I can live him here by himself.  He is a very quiet man, always has been.  He is in bed almost all the time, but does like to listen to the radio and watch TV.
He needs 3 small meals a day, but can use a microwave and heat up a meal.  He neither smokes or drinks alcohol.  He does wear diapers, as a precaution, but handles that himself.  He dresses and bathes himself and handles his own grooming.
I live in Chapel Hill and I will take him to doctor appointments and pick up his medications, if I am not able to do this our son will take over.
I am having major surgery and don't know how long my recoup time will take.  I would like to find a place that he can stay before I go in for the surgery.  That way I would be assured that he is being cared for before I have to be in the hospital.
This could be a place for him for a month or two or longer if it works out for all of us.
I am thinking of a retired person, who has the extra room, or a mom who would like to stay at home.
Price, dates and details all can be worked out.
Please call me, if you are interested or know someone who is.  Hopefully this could be a win, win, win situation for all.

1. someone with a pickup truck to help me haul small stuff (like furniture) and 2. a handyman to do odd jobs around the house. Any suggestions welcome. Thx.

Subject: Monica's Best Offer Sale this Saturday at the bead hive!!!

Out with the old in with the new a valentine bead just for you.

I am ready to give you my best offer on some beads that have worn out their welcome. They were pretty before but they will become even more beautiful when you see what they will be priced at. Here is an example...I have a wine glass full of beautiful amazonite rondelles priced at 30 cents each. If you buy 50 beads the price goes down to 15 cents each, if you buy 30-49 beads the price will be 20 cents each. if you buy 1-29 beads the price will be 25 cents each. The more you buy the better the price. If you want the whole dish of beads ask me for my best offer! Now, that offer will only be valid on this day, if you decided not to do it and then come back next week they will be priced at the original price which will be 30 cents each. That goes for every offer made.

This is how the sale will work. You show me the beads you want and I will add up how many are in the dish and I will make you an offer for the whole dish of beads. If you only want a few out of the dish tell me that before hand. The best offer price will be on the entire dish of beads, if you want less the price will go up.

So, what will be on sale? The list is shorter on what will not be on sale.
He is what will NOT be on sale... My local artists work that I have on consignment, brand new copper findings in the case, and all purple star glass and lampwork will not be on sale. Everything else is fair game.

So, do you have what it takes to bargain with the master deal maker? If so see you Saturday!

Snow plowing: I traded my ancient dump truck for a newer (1993) and much more maneuverable one. It came with chains and a snow plow! So I will be in a position to drive when there is still snow on the roads, and I am going to give snow plowing a try. I should warn you, because of the discomfort, risks and extra expenses, this service will not be cheap.
Yes! It's pretty funny to be talking of  (plowable) snow now. But, please keep me in mind.

We can also arrange for the construction of concrete slabs in connection with our grading.

We carry both liability and workers compensation insurance.

Subject: furniture needed

I thought I sent this in but I haven't seen it yet, so I'll send it again:

Wanted: couch or loveseat and 2-3 chairs, This End Up or Through the Barn Door style(wood frame, super-sturdy) either free or very cheap. The condition of the upholstery doesn't matter - we will replace the pillows. This would be for a very good cause and we can pick them up. A donation letter for tax purposes will be provided.
Thanks!
