Reminder about Classified posts

This is a friendly reminder (again) that no matter when you send in a classified post it will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist. Please do NOT email me asking where your classified post is. It will not appear until the Friday Chatlist. If you send in your classified post on Friday AFTER the classified chatlist has already gone out, guess what? You classified post will NOT appear until the FOLLOWING Friday's Classified Chatlist.

If you get an automated receipt after you send in your post that means we HAVE received your post. Regular emails are posted within 24 to 48 hours. Of course, classified posts will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist.

The Friday Classifieds are very popular and it's not unusual to have over 30 to 40 items on the list. Do NOT email me about a missing post unless you have double checked the chatlist again.

The general rule of thumb is that you can post the same service or the same items twice in a row or twice in a month.
Please adhere to this rule. It also helps a lot if you use some descriptive text in your heading besides FOR SALE ie used TV for sale, yardwork services, Queen-Size Bed and lots of other household stuff

Last item! Please remember that the Classified Chatlist is a FREE and popular community service. Neighbors like dealing with neighbors and it's nice to buy stuff or services from folks you "know". Following certain guidelines makes it a better experience for us all.

Subject: Bynum Cookbooks with Clyde Jones Signature

The Bynum United Methodist Church has put together an outstanding cookbook this year with about 800 recipes. Tried and true from Bynum and Beyond. Each tab has a photograph of some where in the old Mill Village that may bring back memories. Also, we were honored by Clyde Jones who not only had his picture taken along with a piece or two of his artwork but, he signed every one of the cookbooks! So, for the low price of $15.00 you get more than just the recipes, you get an original signature by a well known Chatham County folk artists. Please call Karen Webster at 542-6931.

Subject: Babysitter and tutors needed

We need a responsible adult to provide child care to toddlers while their parents learn English though our family literacy program sponsored by CCCC. The class meets two nights a week, Mondays and Thursdays, from 6:45 to 9 p.m. at Pittsboro Elementary School. There are usually 2 to 4 toddlers, ranging in age from 1 to 2 years. A small stipend is provided in addition to the reward of participating in such a worthwhile activity.

We also welcome volunteers to help tutor our 6 to 10 year old ESL students in reading and math. It is not necessary to speak Spanish.

For more information call or e-mail Linda Starkweather, (919) 542-4133.

I would like to find a Butler style round corrugated galvanized storage bin either new or used.
I see these things all over the countryside on old farm sites. I don't know what they are actually used for, but I want to turn one into an out building.
If you have one that's in the way, I'll come and get it.

Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop '58 Reiussue electric guitar w/ hardshell case.  Made in '98, beautiful figured top!  For sale at C. A. Sullivan Music in Pittsboro, askin $2,800.  These are $3,300 new and don't have figured tops anymore.  Plus, the necks are thicker now and harder to play!  Also for sale, Germino Lead 55 LV head with 6V6 tubes and 2x12 speaker cab.  This amp is a reprodutcion of a '68 Marshall plexi.  The 6V6 tubes and the Scumbag 25 speakers in the cab give it a dynamite overdrive at a much lower volume than an old-school Marshall.  New, this stack would cost $2,700, and there is a 6-8 week wait for Germino since they are handmade to the highest quality.  I'm selling mine for $2,200.  Buy the guitar and the stack, I will knock $500 off the amp.  E-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you are interested.  Thanks.

Subject: Energy Saving Tips For The Home: Light & Water

Water Heaters:

1. Most import -INSULATION! Water heater blankets can reduce your water tanks heating cycle by 31% in the winter months in our climate. (Think Thermos) -available at J. Henry

2. GO TANK-LESS- If you ever get the urge or the chance, look into tank-less water heaters. They work very efficiently on either gas or electric service, and supply a constant flow of water at your desired temperature. Unlike tank water heaters, these models only heat the water as it's needed, instead of wasting energy to heat your water supply 24/7. At first there might be a sticker shock, but over the course of a year, your energy bill will prove it was well worth the upfront cost. (Think BOSCH) -available at J. Henry

Lights:

1: Turn them off! There is an old myth that says "leaving the some lights on instead of turning them off uses less energy than turning them on and off". I don't want to feud over antique thinking but that's just bollocks. As a fairly new husband and father, I find it my duty to walk around the house cutting off light switches.
-not available at J. Henry

2: Compact Fluorescents! They been around since the 1980's, why only now they are so popular evades me.
I've had my house on Compact Fluorescents since 1992, and the immediate energy savings will reflect in your very next bill. If you are unfamiliar with the ratios of energy comparatively between the bulbs, 40w becomes 11w, 60w becomes 13w, 75w becomes 20w, 100 becomes 23w.

That means that changing just one 100 watt incandescent bulb to an equivalent compact fluorescent in North Carolina would save you $74.00 on energy consumed  over the course of a year. Now think about replacing 12 of those bulbs. $888.00 total saved.

HOWEVER! Be cautious of cheaply made compact fluorescent that have limitations to their uses.
-some cannot be installed upside down.
-some cannot be dimmed.
-some cannot be used outdoors.
-some cannot be enclosed by the fixture.
-some leach dangerous gases.
-some last a very short time.
-some have a very cold color temperature.
-some are still made using the 1988 designs.
(most of the SOME I speak of come in 4packs for $4.99and the name sounds alot like Sylvia)

-FEIT Electric Compact Fluorescents
do what SOME cannot! -available at J. Henry

If you want to know more about how my power bill stays in the $40.00 region, just come by the store.

As a lot of you know my daughter Keara was murdered by her boyfriend on April 5th 2006. On Monday Jan 29th he pled guilty to first degree murder and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. I have started to receive disability but the income is not enough to pay the bills so I am looking for part time work. I would appreciate any leads that you may know of. I am still trying to recover from two back surgeries and the loss of my daughter so nothing too stressful or physical. I appreciate all the support that members of this community have given me. A lot of people came to support myself and my family at the court hearing. I am glad to have this part behind me but know that I will never get over losing Keara and it hurts to know that her murderer got to choose whether he would live or not but Keara wasn't given that opportunity by him. I am also still looking for someone who can make some lap quilts for us out of Keara's clothes that I still have.

Here at Pittsboro Animal Hospital we charge a $5 donation for a toe nail trim.  All that money is saved in an account that is used for medical care for animals brought here by C.A.R.E. (ie; performing FeLV/ FIV tests kittens).  It is important to us to give back to community animals in need.

We plan in the very near future to open our brand new remodeled grooming room to the public for by-owner-bathing.  This will be offered at specific times (ie; Wed 12-3, Sat 10-12).  All the hospital remodeling projects are moving along and looking fabulous!

Subject: re:classifieds - lost & found pets

A very sweet, friendly un-neutered male tom cat has been hanging out at my place since approx Jan 21. He came & went, but now appears to be living here (and well fed, I might add.) He appears to be a young adult 1-2 years, very long hair, fluffy tail, small size, dark brown fur, almost black around his face, with golden eyes. I live in Jordan Lake Mobile Home Park on Big Woods Rd., approx. ½ mile from intersection with Jack Bennett Rd.

As a cat lover, I cannot ignore his presence. He enjoys the pets and strokes and most certainly the food given twice daily.

I will vacate the house during that period and will remove all furniture. It needs a sand and finish. I need to know before Feb 7.
